Life with NSBM DevOps Community

NSBM DevOps Community is the place I found my talent for organizing events.I joined to lead the DevOps Community events in 2017.I got the chance to join because of a senior of NSBM(Buddhi Charith).The goal of the community is to sharpen the programming skills of students. DevOps is a combination of computing students of NSBM.You can find more about NSBM DevOps from here.

As my first event organized by the DevOps community, we did a game development event in collaboration with Unity.I was a co-lead for this event. The event took place on 28th of September 2017 at NSBM premises with the participation of about 200 people.Six guest speakers were there including two from unity India Subcontinent Mr. Jai Naresh and Mr. Madhur Gupta, two from Unity Sri Lanka Mr.Chathu Wishwajith and Miss.Subashi Palika, Mr. Sanoj Siriwardhane from Bhasha(pvt)Ltd and a undergraduate of NSBM Miss. Pivithuru Rathnasinghe. In the session Unity people discussed how games are developed and gave a introduction to their platform while Miss. Pivithuru discussed about designing and Mr. Sanoj described about their new game "Akuru Keliya" which was built using Unity platform. So event was a huge success and all the participants has gained a lot of knowledge at the end of the day.

As our second event, we have organized a app development workshop in collaboration with Dialog Ideamart crew. The event has took place on 10th November 2017 at NSBM Green University with the participation of about 150. The session was mainly focused on the developing of mobile applications using ideamart platform. Six people came to the workshop representing Dialog Ideamart including Mr. Shafraz Rahim and Mr. Pasindu De Silva. First they gave a brief introduction about Ideamart and about Ideamart platform. Then they began the hands on session describing step by step how to make a account and how to submit a proposal to ideamart in order to get the approval to publish a new app on ideamart platform. Once the approval is given developers can develop their mobile app. They have show some examples on how to develop apps on their platform. And finally they had a special session for girls to encourage girls to participate in development. They told about a women app challenge where girls can participate and develop their own apps and market their app and get approval from ideamart and publish it. So at the end of the day session was really helpful for every participant.  

As our first event in 2018 and as our third event, we organized a session with Creative Software to educate the students about how to face an interview successfully on 5th April 2018 at NSBM Green University. Three representatives from Creative Software came to conduct the event Mr.Channa De Silva software engineering director, Miss. Emma Debeljak associate marketing manager and Miss. Dinuka Tharangi Jayaweera technical business analyst.

The session started by giving an introduction to Creative Software by Emma and Channa did the session on how to be ready for an interview. In there he has explained from the beginning on how to dress, talk and behave. he talked about a lot of important things about interviews like what a company expect from an applicant and what an applicant must know before going to the interview, how to prepare for the interview etc.

As a summary of his session, he mentioned 4 steps on How to prepare for a job interview

1. Read the job description and decide how do you qualify
2. Research the company
3. Practice and brush up your knowledge
4. Keep calm and prepare

and What a company expect from an applicant

1. The ability to understand the underlying concepts
2. Passion
3. The attitude
4. Communication
5. Honesty
6. Team Work

After 2 hours session, all the participants were well educated about how to be successful in an interview and the session was a great success.
